Video: Rock the Mall Recap

2012
06.13

This past weekend was the “Rock the Mall” event in Washington DC. There are reports that there were over 250,000 Girl Scouts on the mall! I have found a couple of videos that recap the event. For those that attended the event, I’m sure they have some great memories. For those of us that were not able to attend, the webcast that Nation’s Capital provided was almost as good as being there!

Here’s one of the attempts to break the World Record for the largest flash mob with the song ”Ignite”!

Also on Saturday, the US Postal Service unveiled the new “Celebrate Scouting” stamp. They introduced it in a unique way – with a song! (Of course, it’s a sing-a-long!)

The Washington DC Fire Department came to the “Rock the Mall” also! They brought their trucks and sprayed the girls to cool them off! I’m sure the girls appreciated the cool down!

Here’s a great video that shows a 380 degree view of the event. You can really get an idea of the number of people who attended!

A troop from Syracuse, NY was able to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. What an honor!

And finally to end my post today, a song to sing along to – “Fred the Moose”!

Song: Fred the Moose

Time for another silly camp song! “Fred the Moose” is a silly, action song. It is also an echo song – meaning the girls repeat each line back. This makes it really easy to teach the girls the song. Leaders get to act silly and the troop gets to see the leaders acting silly!

Fred the Moose

There was great big moose! (echo each line)

(Hands on either side of head making antlers every time you sing “moose” or “Fred”)

Who liked to drink a lot of juice (echo)

(mime cup in hands, drinking juice)

There was a great big moose (echo)

Who liked to drink a lot of juice (echo)

(mime cup in hands, drinking juice)

Chorus

Wayoohoohooh! (echo)

Wayo-wayo-wayo-wayo (echo)

Wayo-wayo (echo)

Wayo-wayo-wayo-wayo- (echo)

(hands together make circle around to right and then the other way, back and forth)

The moose’s name was Fred (echo)

He liked to drink his juice in bed (echo)

(one leg out, bend back, hand behind head)

The mooses’s name was Fred (echo)

He liked to drink his juice in bed (echo)

Chorus

He drank his juice with care (echo)

(mime small cup in hands, drinking juice, softer voice)

But he spilt it on his hair (echo)

(throw hands in air)

He drank his juice with care (echo)

But he spilt it on his hair (echo)

Chorus

Now he’s a sticky moose (echo, slow down)

But he’s a moose (echo, slower)

That’s full of juice (echo, slower)

On the loose (echo, slowest yet – stretch it out!)

This is a video from a Boy Scout camp singing the Fred the Moose song. As you can see, most of the boys don’t get into it as much and the actions are a little different! But it is something to get you started!

Why don’t you video your troop singing Fred the Moose! Send me a link and I’ll feature it here!
